sortingsterilizerThis program can be the first step in a career ladder that leads to employment in a science that specializes in a department that serves the equipment and instrumentation needs of a hospital, surgery center or other healthcare facility.  You can complete the certificate program, then the associates degree and even enroll in the bachelors degree in organizational management right here at GCSC while working full or part time or simply continuing your education. You can then progress to a master’s degree at the college of your choice by following their plan requirements to prepare you for further career advancement.

Your national certification as a Central Sterile Processing Department Technologist (CSPDT) will be recognized in all states.

Who is eligible for the central sterile processing technologist Option, A.S. program?

  1. If you are a high school graduate, you can apply to this program.
  2. If you have earned credits from a regionally accredited college or university, you may have a head start at Gulf Coast State College.  
  3. Central Sterile Processing Specialization: Up to 29 of the 30 Central sterile specialization college credits in the classroom, lab skills and clinical experience may be granted by validated current proof of certification as a central sterile processing technician. Others who may enter in advanced standing include EMT, LPN, CNA, or other healthcare related  graduates. The remaining 15 general education courses plus an additional 19 elective credits from the approved list must be completed towards a CCC and/or AS degree in Surgical Services (HS1-AS).

 Articulation: To be eligible to graduate from GCSC, the student will have to complete at least 25% of the entire 64 credit program with Gulf Coast State College which is a minimum of 16 credit hours completed at GCSC for the AS Degree.
