We have received an overwhelming response from the community for summer courses. Education Encore Plus was created as an extension of the Education Encore program, which we offer during the spring and fall semesters. Education Encore Plus courses are fun and informative, and are designed especially for the summer months. Below is a listing of the courses available.

Computer – Basics
By using a comfortable and simplified approach, you will learn the basic functionality of computers. You will learn step-by-step instruction on the purpose of each key on the keyboard, learn to control the mouse, and explore a variety of programs including the Internet, Windows, and word processing. Exploring the Internet is a great place to get onto the information Super Highway! Learn about key internet technologies such as web browsers, e-mail, and search engines. Drawing 1
Learn the basics of drawing by learning how to really “see” what you are drawing. Anyone can learn how to draw by learning basic elements that make up all shapes and objects. Focus will be on beginning techniques as well as finishing touches and ways to make your drawings stand out. A variety of media will be explored including pencil, pastel, and mixed media. Class is held every Monday and Wednesday. (18 hours)

Drawing II
Take your drawings to a new level by experimenting with techniques. Paint, collage, or texture can be added as a base or background to draw on top of. This class will focus on creating interesting dimensions to your drawing surface and making drawings more unique. Detail and shading will complete your designs and each student will be encouraged to develop their own unique style, whether more realistic or more abstract. Class is held every Monday and Wednesday. Music Appreciation
This course will cover the history of music, composers, style, and period instruments. Style periods will include Medieval/Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionism/Contemporary, and American/World music. You will learn to understand and appreciate how western music has changed throughout the last 1500 years, and why. We use PowerPoint presentations and other audio/visual media to see and listen to examples of each period. (9 hours)

A Survey of Major Western Composers
This course will survey the lives and musical style of Western music’s major composers– Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, and Gershwin.
