Emergency Medical Services

Emergency Medical Services, more commonly known as EMS, is a system that provides emergency medical care. Once it is activated, the focus of EMS is emergency medical care of the patient(s). EMS is most easily recognized when emergency vehicles seen responding to emergency incidents. It is a system of coordinated response and emergency medical care, involving multiple people and agencies. EMS does not operate in isolation. It is integrated with other services and systems intended to maintain and enhance the community's health and safety.

What is an Emergency Medical Technician?

An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is the beginning level in the Emergency medical Services (EMS) ladder. EMT's receive training in basic life support measures including patient assessment cardiac arrest skills, oxygen therapy, shock prevention, bandaging, splinting, spinal immobilization and vehicle extrication.  

What is a Paramedic?

Paramedics build on their EMT education and are advanced providers of emergency medical care. They are highly educated in advanced life supports topics such as venipuncture, intravenous therapy, endotracheal intubation, dysrhythmia interpretation, medication administration, cardioversion and defibrillation.
