Technology

Advances in technology have had a significant impact on the educational experiences of students with disabilities, helping them become more independent. It is important that you become aware of some of the technological devices that students with disabilities may use in your classroom or to complete assignments in your course.  This equipment is located in the DSS area or available for check-out through DSS.

Assistive Listening Devices

Some students with hearing deficits may choose to wear some type of assistive listening device, such as an FM system, to amplify voices and sounds in the classroom. These systems usually require the speaker to use a microphone while the listener wears a receiver.

Other Equipment

Other pieces of equipment, such as modified computer mice, large monitors, magnifying glasses, variable speed tape recorders, and Franklin spellers are also available upon request. Computers with a variety of different programs, such as Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, and internet access, are also available in the DSS area.
