Financial Aid

Financial aid is any grant, scholarship, part-time employment opportunity or loan that helps you pay for education related expenses. Such aid can be provided by federal, state, college, and/or private agencies.

The financial aid office at Gulf Coast State College serves students by providing information and access to financial aid programs. We are committed to high-quality customer service and continually strive to improve the accurate processing of financial aid to students in a fair, consistent and efficient manner.

Applying for financial aid begins with submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To submit a FAFSA:

  1. Gather your and your parent's / your spouse's federal income tax forms (1040, W-2s, 1099s)

  2. Obtain a Federal Student Aid (FSA) username and password from

  3. Log on to

  4. Answer the FAFSA's questions using your federal income tax forms, noting that GCSC's school code is 001490

  5. Sign & submit your FAFSA using your FSA password

  6. Apply for admissions to GCSC in an aid eligible program by clicking here

  7. Check your GC Email because important financial aid correspondence will be sent to you

GCSC offers the following types of aid to eligible students:



Pell Grant
The Pell Grant is the largest federally funded undergraduate grant program. Awards range from $581 to $5,775 for the 2015-2016 aid year and are based on enrollment status and expected family contribution as determined by information provided on FAFSA.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
FSEOG is a federally funded grant program awarded by the Financial Aid Office to students who demonstrate exceptional financial need and complete the FAFSA before April 1st.

Irag and Afghanistan Service Grant (IASG)
A grant provided by the federal government to qualified undergraduate students who complete a FAFSA and have a parent or guardian that died as a result of military service in Iraq or Afghanistan.


Federal Work Study (FWS)

FWS is a federally funded, need based student work program. Indicate your interest in student employment on the FAFSA application. Applications are available in the Financial Aid Office or online. Click here to e-mail questions

Federal Direct Stafford Loans
Federal Student loans are funds that students borrow and will have to be repaid with interest. ALL loan types require a FAFSA.  Click the loans link on the side bar for more information about loans.

Florida Bright Futures

Bright Futures is funded by the State of Florida and is awarded to high school students meeting certain academic criteria.

A Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) is required in order to be considered for Florida Bright Futures programs. Please visit the Florida Department of Education's website for more information.

Florida Student Assistance Grant (FSAG)
FSAG is a state funded grant available to students who meet eligibility criteria as determined by the Florida Department of Education.

First Generation Matching Grant (FGMG)
The First Generation Matching Grant is a jointly funded by GCSC Foundation and the Florida Department of Education. This grant provides assistance to low-income Florida residents who are the first in their family to attend college and who complete the FAFSA early.

A FAFSA is required in order to be considered for the FSAG & FGMG programs.


Workforce Training Center
The Workforce Training Center at GCSC is a state funded service provider offering educational training opportunities in A.S., Certificate, and Vocational careers that are high wage and high demand occupations. Visit for more details.


Foundation Scholarships
A Foundation Scholarship is a monetary amount given to a GCSC student by the Gulf Coast State College Foundation. Scholarship awards are not meant to cover 100% of a student’s educational cost, but are intended only to supplement a student’s educational funding.  You can apply for scholarships by visiting


Tuition Deferments
Deferments are temporary delays in fee deadlines.  Contact the financial aid office for more information.

Emergency Short-Term Loans
Emergency Short-Term Loans are temporary promissory notes designed to assist students in meeting their tuition & fee obligations.  Contact the financial aid office for more information.
