The Paramedic is the higher level of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) ladder, and is an advanced specialist in prehospital emergency care.
The application deadline for Paramedic is June 1st each year.
Paramedics are licensed EMTs who then receive training in advanced life support measures, including venipuncture, intravenous therapy, endotracheal intubation, medication administration, dysrhythmia interpretation, cardioversion and defibrillation.
Paramedic Program:
three-semester program during Fall, Spring, and Summer-A terms
occurs once a year
classes on Mondays from 1:30 p.m. - 6:20 p.m., and Wednesdays from 4:00 p.m. - 6:20 p.m. CST
Paramedics are most frequently employed by ambulance services, fire departments, hospitals, and emergency clinics.
The starting salaries for paramedics average $35,000 per year approximately.
For Paramedics in need of re-certification, a Paramedic Refresher course is available. The course is offered via online Distance Education as well as in the classroom.
