Magnetic Resonance Imaging (RADT-ATC)

AREA OF CONCENTRATION: This e-Learing programs is an Advanced Technical Certificate curriculum offered to candidates currently certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in the fields of Radiography, Sonography, Radiation Therapy, or in Nuclear Medicine Technology certified by Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB), and to graduate Radiography students who are eligible for certification.

Graduate students must pass the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists within four weeks after beginning the certificate program.

The program provides Distance Education courses and clinical rotations.  The clinical portion of the program consists of orientation to the clinical aspects of MRI, demonstration of the use of the equipment, and an opportunity to participate under close supervision in actual MRI procedures.

Following successful completion of the program courses and clinical practice, the candidate may be eligible to apply for certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging offered by the ARRT.   

The MRI program is a selective admissions, limited enrollment program. Admission to Gulf Coast State College does not imply acceptance into the MRI program. To apply for this program of study, students should obtain a program application packet from the Health Sciences Division containing a current listing of admission and course requirements.

Admission Requirements:

  1. New students should apply for General Admission to Gulf Coast State College  <click here>
  2. New students must pay $20 college application fee online, at the Bookstore, or at the Business Office
  3. Submit MRI program application form, including Technical Standards Form <click here>
  4. Submit proof of licensure (plus State licensure, if applicable)
  5. Submit official high school transcript or copy of GED with scores to the Admissions Office
  6. Submit official transcripts from all colleges attended and have evaluation completed by Admissions Office
  7. Schedule a visit with the Radiography Coordinator for an advising session, if necessary

The program begins twice each year and has a duration of two semesters. Applications are accepted continuously until the class is filled.

After conditional acceptance:

  1. Satisfactory criminal background check done at Gulf Coast State College at the student's expense
  2. Submit copy of current valid CPR card and maintain certification throughout the program.  Acceptable cards are the American Heart Assoc. Healthcare Provider, American Red Cross Professional Rescuer, or American Safety Health Institute CPR-Pro.
  3. Submit completed Physical Examination with satisfactory results signed by a physican
  4. Submit completed Immunization Form including Hepatitis-B series and TB skin test/TB blood test
  5. Submit proof of AIDS certification and OSHA and remain current throughout the duration of the program
