Attention Registered Nursing Student Applicants:
Effective November 19, 2010.

Students who are completing their application checklist and are review information regarding the taking the HESI A2 Pre Admission Exam still can take the exam no more than twice but there is now no waiting period between the first attempt and the second attempt for the exam.  If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact your advisor.

Grant News:

2005-2006 - The Health Science Programs received Florida for Jobs Future Cash state funded grant for $301,688.00. The nursing program has received money for funding the LPN-ADN weekend program. The grant will provide the nursing program funds to purchase the Noelle simulation birthing mannequin and laboratory equipment. The health science programs at Gulf Coast are in the final planning stages for design of the new Tapper Health Science building with state of the art laboratory training facilities.

2006-2007 - The nursing program received a continuation Florida for Jobs Future Cash state grant for $106,194.00 The funds will provide medical equipment for the soon to be expanded nursing labs. The program's lab currently houses eight hospital beds in the lab. In 2009 when the remodeled Tapper Health Science building is complete, the nursing students will have a large ten bed lab, a six bed simulation lab and a two bed obstetrics/pediatric lab. Sixteen computers will also be purchased to simulate the computer workstations in the hospital environment.

2009-2012 - Health Science Programs received a Community Based Job Training Grant from the Department of Labor for $1,999,982.00. Nursing equipment for the laboratories and classrooms include two 3G Laerdal High Fidelity Mannequins with NLN software for the simulation labs, sixty computers for the nursing classroom and funds for curriculum development.


Nursing News – 2009-2011

The Associates Degree Nursing Program is currently writing the National League of Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC) report. Part of the accreditation is having faculty review the nursing programs outcomes and evaluate their findings to improve the nursing curriculum. Our Accreditation visit is scheduled for October 2010.

Our newest changes to the curriculum are the changes in the HESI Admission Assessment Exam. We have raised the standard for the Math, Reading Comprehension, Grammar and Vocabulary to 75% for all sections. See the application packet for details.

NCLEX Pass Rates – First Time Testers: Gulf Coast State College NCLEX pass rates for first time test takers continue to be above the national average.

On August 11, 2009 the new Health Sciences Building opened its doors with a ribbon cutting ceremony. This brand new facility offers state of the art equipment to all Health Science programs. GCCC gets $300,000 health-care grant Gulf Coast State College students have a pregnant mannequin of their very own. Nursing students at Gulf Coast work with Noelle, a mannequin that simulates a late term pregnancy. Students can check the “baby’s” heartbeat, the mother’s heartbeat and deliver the infant during their classes. Noelle, a $10,500 piece of plastic and electronics, was one of the first things health science officials purchased after they received a $301,688 grant through Florida’s Department of Education. more...
