Central Sterile Processing Department - Vocational Certificate (CS-VC)
AREA OF CONCENTRATION: The purpose of this two-semester, 500-hour program is to educate students in the specialty of Central Sterile Processing and promote knowledge based critical thinking in the safe practice of Central Sterile Processing. Upon completion of all graduation requirements, students of this program will receive a Vocational Certificate in Central Sterile Processing. Successful completion of the program will allow graduates to apply to take the national certifying examination provided all the eligibility requirements currently established are met.
APPLICATION PROCESS:
- New students should apply for General Admission to Gulf Coast State College <click here>
- New students must pay $20 college application fee online, or at the Business Office (in person or by phone)
- Submit the Central Sterile Processing dept. program application <click here>
- Take TABE test as listed in the CSPD application packet
- Submit official High School transcripts or GED with scores to the Admissions Office
- Submit official transcripts from all colleges attended to the Admissions Office for evaluation.
- Submit two Letters of Reference (see packet information)
- Schedule an initial advising with program Coordinator to evaluate transcripts for possible course substitution, and/or enroll in recommended prerequisites
Minimum Requirements for Admission: Listed below are the specific requirements for admission to this program. It should be understood, however, that only the minimum requirements are given and that admission to this program is a selective process. The satisfaction of minimum requirements does not automatically guarantee admission. When space is limited, preference may be given to students within the community college’s assigned district.
- Recommended First Semester (FALL) Courses:
Satisfactory completion with a grade of “C” or higher in STS0006 and STS0006L Orientation to Surgical Services and Lab; STS0009 Terms, Structure, and Function of the Human Body; and STS0030 Microbiology and Infection Control, if not completed already. Preference will be given to students who have completed the recommended prerequisites or are currently enrolled with a satisfactory grade.
- Complete the application process as outlined in the selection packet
- Proof of high school graduation or equivalent filed in the Admissions Office
- Conference with program Coordinator
- Upon acceptance into the program, student must have a satisfactory Physical Examination, signed by a physician; Immunizations Form completed; a current TB skin test or TB blood test; Latex Allergy Screen Form completed and signed; satisfactory criminal background check through GCSC at the student's expense.
- Proof of current valid CPR card and maintain certification throughout the entire length of the program. Acceptable cards are the American Heart Association Healthcare Provider or Red Cross for Professional Rescuer.
