POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION TITLE:

Nursing Faculty - Psychiatric & Mental Health (pending budgetary approval)

REPORTS TO:

Coordinator, Nursing Program

BASIC FUNCTION:

Teach 15 hours of didactic coursework or 18-24 hours of combined credit/contact per semester per the college Manual of Policy in nursing.  Teach in assigned didactic, clinical, lab and/or simulated labs.

Design and implement the curriculum plan to meet requirements for the Associate Degree Nursing Program.  This includes assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of courses and program objectives.  It also includes classroom, campus laboratory and clinical (hospital/direct patient care) education.

Schedule office hours to be available to students per college policy.

CLASSIFICATION:

9-month, Faculty

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teach assigned course load.  Complete any relevant course responsibilities such as arriving to all assignments in timely manner, grading, posting grades & other assignments in timely manner.

Directly supervise and evaluate students in the clinical setting.  Requires written and verbal evaluation based on performance and behavioral objectives.

Maintain course Learning Activity Guide & syllabus as appropriate. Review student course evaluations and modify as appropriate.

Organize, create, and maintain all course related data such as attendance records, grades, exams, and course evaluations, according to state and/or accreditation requirements. 

Maintain exam banks to be congruent with published learning objectives

Demonstrate collaboration with clinical agencies regarding program objectives, updates to curriculum and policies.

Orient and assist full-time and part-time faculty as needed.

Serve on and participate in division, nursing, PE/CR, and one annual advisory board meeting as available.

Participate in in-services, professional growth training, seminars and workshops and maintain current nursing license.

Exhibit and uphold the professional nursing standards.

Participate in National League for Nursing and Florida Board of Nursing accreditation processes.

Maintain computer competency which meets college and instructional needs.

Counsel, refer, remediate, and tutor and utilize disciplinary processes as needed.

Advisement Responsibilities:

    • Counsel, advise, register or assist with registration for all health science students.
    • Maintain student records for nursing student advisement.
    • If indicated, prepare Admission Index with each admission cycle. (LPN advisors rarely need to use this)

Engage in self evaluation activities and goal setting each academic year.

Other duties assigned by the Coordinator of Nursing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Masters Degree in Nursing

2 years of mental health experience

Current Florida Registered Nursing License, including minimum of 24 continued education units every 2 years.

Visual ability sufficient for observation and assessment necessary in nursing care

  • Observe patient/client responses
  • Identify and distinguish colors

Tactile

Tactile ability sufficient for physical assessment

  • Perform palpation, functions of physical examination and/or those related to therapeutic intervention, e.g., insertion of a catheter

Environmental

Ability to tolerate environmental stressors

  • Adapt to shift work
  • Work with chemicals and detergents
  • Tolerate exposure to fumes and odors
  • Work in areas that are close and crowded
