PRESIDENTIAL SEARCH:

The District Board of Trustees of Gulf Coast State College invites applications and nominations for the position of president. 

Gulf Coast State College (GCSC) is a public four-year college serving residents of Bay, Franklin, and Gulf counties in the Panhandle of Florida.  GCSC is one of twenty-eight institutions that make up the Florida College System.  Established in 1957, the college is approaching its 57th year as a comprehensive public institution. The college is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and has a growing student body of approximately 9,000 credit students and 4,000 continuing education students.  The college’s main campus is located in Panama City with additional campuses at Port St. Joe, Southport, and Tyndall Air Force Base. 

An emphasis on student learning is a hallmark of the college, which is supported by a commitment to collegiality, cordiality, and free exchange of ideas.  Well respected for its high quality faculty and programs that promote student success, Gulf Coast takes pride in consistently seeing its students who transfer to state universities outperform native university students.  In addition, the College has recently opened a state-of-the- art Advanced Technology Center.

The College has a history of fiscal stability, with a current operating budget of $34 million. The College has earned remarkable community support as demonstrated by the Gulf Coast State College Foundation with assets of more than $27 million.

The presidential search process is subject to the Florida Sunshine Law, and all materials in the application packet will be made available to the public upon request.

CLASSIFICATION:

Executive

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution is required; an earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution is preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference will be given to candidates who have significant leadership experience in a senior-level position in a state or community college, although candidates who have equivalent senior management experience in a non-profit or private sector business environment will also be given consideration.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Gulf Coast State College seeks an honest, ethical, and high-energy College President who can exhibit the following qualities:

  • A successful record of promoting partnerships with various constituencies, including other educational agencies, businesses, civic organizations, and community groups
  • A commitment to creating an institutional climate of professionalism, mutual respect, and high standards which enhances student learning and motivates staff and students to greater achievement
  • A passion for the value of public higher education as well as a demonstrated commitment to open-access, affordability, and academic excellence
  • A commitment to strengthening the college and improving performance by fostering an entrepreneurial spirit within the college environment and to promoting economic development and job creation within the community at large
  •  A thorough understanding of various funding models and a history of sound financial management and fundraising experience
  • An ability to evaluate productivity, mission, and financial metrics and implement  performance-based incentives to continuously improve college performance 
  • A clear understanding of and ability to work with the political process
  • A commitment to supporting professional development and success for all faculty and staff
  • Superior interpersonal skills, approachability, and a proven ability to adeptly handle multiple competing demands.

DEADLINE:

Presidential Search Committee review of applications will begin on February 14, 2014.
