The Wellness and Athletics division will offer a Basic Skin and Scuba Diving classes on May 16 through August 2 in the Natatorium on campus. Classes will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
The course is designed to prepare to meet all standards for certification as a SCUBA Diver by the National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI). The course provides confidence training in watermanship, skin-diving skills and use of SCUBA equipment. Students enrolled in the class will finish the course by participating in open water dives around the various artificial reefs in the Panama City area.
A preliminary swimming evaluation will be made and a complete safety questionnaire will be required. Students must be at least average swimmers and comfortable in the water.
The course requires each student provide their own mask, fins, snorkel, logbook and gloves by the end of the course. A medical form is required and history of heart or respiratory problems will require a doctor's exam.
