The agencies who are members of the Gulf Coast Criminal Justice Selection Center are listed below. Those agencies that have Web sites are active links that you can click to go to their sites.
If you are interested in seeking employment as a police officer or deputy sheriff, these are the procedures to follow when a job position is advertised.
Contact the agency you wish to work for and complete an employment application.
They will advise you of the testing dates and locations.
Pre-Employment Exam The agency you are trying to join will refer you to the Selection Center to take a pre-employment exam that consists of an attitude survey called the Step One Survey and the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). There is a non-refundable fee of $35.00 to take the exam.
After the exam, you may schedule an appointment with us, if you wish, to review your exam scores.
Oral Board Interview
The hiring agency will schedule an oral interview before a board of Command Officers from within the department. Candidates are asked a set of questions. They are the same questions for each candidate. In this process you should remember two (2) key factors.
Dress, act and respond like a professional law enforcement candidate.
Utilize your time wisely and productively in the interview. This is your opportunity to sell yourself to the agency administrators.
The Issuance of a "Conditional Offer of Employment"
If you are to be further considered for employment with the agency a "Conditional Offer of Employment" will be extended to you. This allows the agency to begin your background investigation, perform medical exams, drugs screens and personality assessments.
Personality Assessment
The agency will instruct you to contact the Center at 850-747-3242 to inquire about a personality assessment. These assessments are conducted by a local psychologist. The Center charges a non-refundable fee of $50.00 for this exam.
Applicant Pool
If you are not selected for employment, your name and pre-employment test scores will be retained by the Center for two years in the Applicant Pool for future positions as they become available. The psychological exam is only good for ninety (90) days, so if more than ninety days has passed, you will be required to pay for another exam.
If you apply with another Bay County agency simply advise them that you already have test scores on file with the Selection Center and they will contact us for the scores.
