Fire Academy: Fire Science E-Learning Program

Training:

Fire Science E-Learning Program

Requirements:

Gulf Coast State College is in the process of developing a program to allow students, which normally cannot take a class on campus, the opportunity to obtain college credited fire science courses from their home computer.

All of the distant learning classes that we offer have been approved by the Florida State Fire College and will be accepted toward their certifications.  The approved courses we offer are listed below, and as more classes are approved, we will add them to the list.

Each course consists of eight to ten modules to be completed.  Each module consists of a reading assignment, a classroom session on DVD, a short answer/small essay homework assignment, and a quiz that can be taken and graded online.

After the modules have been completed, you will be required to take a proctored final exam.  The exam can either be proctored by myself, on campus or by an approved proctor, if distance is a problem.

There are no boundaries as to who can take these classes.  In order to be eligible for instate tuition fees, you must be a citizen of Florida for 12 or more months.  Each class is 3 credit hours. The cost of the classes can be found at, http://www.gulfcoast.edu/tuition_fees/default.htm.

Registration can be done on campus or online at,  https://cpnta.gulfcoast.edu/csrs/

After you have successfully registered, you can obtain the DVDs and Power Point presentations needed to complete the class in one of three ways.

  1. Check them out at the campus library.
  2. Order them online at, http://www.gulfcoast.edu/ecampus/testing.htm
  3. Order them by phone at (850) 769-1551 ext. 5807

Once you receive the DVDs, watch the “Orientation” module for instructions on how to use Blackboard.  This module also offers general instructions on what you need to do to complete the class.

To get information on taking the final exam if you can't make it to North Bay Center, Click on the following link.  http://www.gulfcoast.edu/ecampus/testing.htm

If you have any questions or if you would like to watch the orientation DVD to see how the classes operate, you may e-mail me at paull@knology.net, or you may call me at (850) 527-7099. If you want me to mail you the orientation DVD, include your mailing address in the e-mail.
