What is Cooperative Education?
Cooperative Education (Co-op) is an educational program in which students combine classroom study with on-the-job work experience related to their academic major through one or two semesters. It’s a great way to gain work experience in a new profession. This experience will be valuable, not only during the students' enrollment at Gulf Coast State College, but also after graduation as they build their professional resume.
The course is designed to maximize the students' learning and apply practical skill and learned theories to projects in their field of studies. The student will be placed in an appropriate business, industry, government agency or educational institution whereby they will earn college credits and gain practical knowledge at the same time.
Students have two main responsibilities in Co-op: (1) the student is employed (paid or unpaid) with a company and performs practical job functions for one semester. (2) the student is required to complete course assignments utilizing Angel (the Learning Management System) at Gulf Coast State College.
For Employers
Gulf Coast State College wants to partner with area employers by advertising and screening paid and unpaid internship positions to highly motivated students with the desire to combine practical work experience with their program of study. Please contact Ms. Kimberly Hoyt for more information.
