Program Eligibility

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM?

The state of Florida establishes the eligibility requirements for the program. A student in grades 6 through 12 who meet one academic and one economic criteria is eligible to participate.   Students should also be committed to participate in the majority of activities and have a desire to attend a post-secondary institution.

Academic criteria:

  • first-generation student (parents who does not have a four-year degree)

  • been retained, suspended, or expelled

  • grade point average below a 2.5

  • low performance on any section of the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT)
  • absent from school more than 25 days

  • in Dropout Prevention

Economic criteria: 

  • student enrolled in free or reduced lunch program

  • family receives public assistance (to include AFDC and WAGES)

  • low income (based on family size)
