English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

ESOL, English for Speakers of Other Languages classes are designed for non-native speakers of English in and around the community. ESOL classes are free of charge and are not intended for degree-seeking individuals, but rather for those who need to improve their English speaking and listening skills.

Classes are available on campus at Gulf Coast State College and off campus at various sites throughout the community.  ESOL is also expanding to other campuses within Gulf Coast State College to include classes at the Franklin Center.  In addition to our existing sites, Gulf Coast State College, through local churches and businesses, provide their members and/or workforce ESOL classes on site. All sessions are eight weeks long.

A computer program, the Computer Institute for ESOL Students, provides ESOL students with the opportunity to enhance their computer skills; in addition, an Open-Enrollment ESOL Program is currently in the developmental stages. First-time participants must attend orientation and take a pre-test to determine which of our classes would best suit them.  Once the student completes the class, a post-test will be administered to determine how much that student has learned.

Available ESOL Levels: Foundations, Basic I, Basic II, Intermediate I, Intermediate II, Advanced.
Other ESOL Levels of Study: Civics, Introduction to Computers, Microsoft Office Fundamentals.

Day Time Classes: Mondays and Wednesdays: 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Night Time Classes: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays: 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM
Computer Classes: Mondays: 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM
First Baptist Church Classes: Tuesdays and Thursdays: 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Eastern Ship Building Group Classes: Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays: 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM
