Marsha Benton has been employed periodically at Gulf Coast State College in adjunct and temporary full-time teaching positions in the Language Arts Department since 1986. She and her husband have lived in Panama City since 1980 and have three children and one grandchild.  She began a new chapter in her professional life as an English Learning Manager in January 2002.

  • EDUCATION and BACKGROUND

Marsha van Lawick Benton received her Bachelor's Degree from Duke University in 1974 and her Master's Degree from Middlebury College Graduate School of French in France in 1975. 
In the fall of 1986, Mrs. Benton began as a Language Arts adjunct professor after teaching in secondary school and working as a private tutor locally.  She worked on a temporary full-time basis as an assistant professor in Language Arts from 1990 until 1993, returning to the department to teach English composition and fundamentals of composition in the fall of 2001.  She joined the Success Center in January of 2002.
