Frequently Asked Questions

+ Q. What if I can't make the first class?

A. Weekend classes are intensive: you cover a lot of information in a short period of time. Because of that, you need to plan ahead, note the dates, the days, and the times your class meets, and make sure you can attend all of the sessions.

+ Q. What happens if I miss one class?

A. Depending on what the class is and how long it runs, missing one session can sometimes mean the difference between passing and failing. Check with your instructor to find out.

+ Q. Will I need a textbook?

A. Some classes use textbooks, other classes don't. The best way to find out is to call the bookstore (850-769-1551) with the name of the course and the section number. The bookstore staff will be happy to assist you.

+ Q. Is registering for a Weekend College class different from registering for other classes?

A. No, it's not. However, to make sure you register for the class that meets on the weekend, check the class schedule for Weekend College courses.

+ Q. When is the latest date I can drop a Weekend College class and get a refund?

A. Drop dates differ. Check the add/drop date range on the college calendar at  www.gulfcoast.edu

+ Q. How many Weekend College classes can I take in one semester?

A. You can take as many classes as you can squeeze in, just as long as the dates for the different classes don't overlap.

+ Q. What happens if I've signed up for two classes whose dates do overlap?

A. To avoid any conflicts, do some checking before you register: simply look at the start date and the stop date of each class you want to take and make sure they don't overlap.

+ Q. What's the difference between a Weekend College class and a "regular" class?

A. Weekend College classes are held on weekends! So if you work, if you have a family, or if you just want something fun to do on Friday nights, Saturdays, and/or Sundays, Weekend College classes are for you. You can work on a college degree or just take classes for fun. Or maybe you want to brush up on some skills you need for your job. Whatever the class is, and for whatever reason you're taking it, you can be sure the class you choose will be more intense. These classes will require that you complete all of your homework assignments and attend each session. And don't be surprised when you discover you're having a lot of fun, meeting new and interesting people, and gaining confidence as you learn useful and important information.

+ Q. What if I don’t remember how to write a paper? What kinds of services are available to adults?

A. Please take a tour of our college website to understand the services that are available to our students. Usually it is up to the student to seek out services, which may include academic advising, career planning and tutoring; ensure that your search starts at this website http://www.gulfcoast.edu/trio_sss

+ Q. How do I get started?

A. Visit the Admissions and Records webpage and follow the instructions on the Enrollment Steps.
