A. At Gulf Coast Community College, a comprehensive public institution, we provide high quality, affordable educational, training, and enrichment programs. We serve primarily the residents of Florida’s Bay, Gulf and Franklin counties.
GCCC operates a full-time education center at Tyndall Air Force Base in the base education center. The GCCC Tyndall Center offers over 30 college courses per semester. A wide variety of degree programs are available including Associate in Arts degrees, which prepare students to transfer to four year institutions, Associate in Science degrees in occupational fields and some one year certificate programs.
The average class size for Tyndall courses is 25 students. Classes are scheduled for morning, lunchtime, afternoon, evening, and weekend attendance. Distance education courses are also available for Tyndall students. Many additional courses are offered at the Panama City campus approximately 18 miles from Tyndall or the Gulf Franklin Center located in Port St. Joe.
Q. How do I get started?
A. Gulf Coast Community College has an open door admission policy Admissions. Tyndall classes are open to military, dependents, retirees, DOD employees as well as the general public. Civilian students should contact TAFB office for information on base access. Students may apply and/or register in-person at Tyndall. Web registration is also available through the GCCC web page at Web Registration. With a GCCC Personal Identification Number (PIN) students may access academic records through the web system and register online. GCCC also provides early registration dates each term for active duty military, dependents, and civil service personnel. Enrollment in Tyndall classes is open to all GCCC students.
Q. What will it cost?
A. All active duty military stationed in Florida and their dependents qualify for instate fees. Students are encouraged to apply for Federal Student Aid. GCCC Tyndall Center offers several partial scholarships for activity duty students. Additionally Gulf Coast has other scholarship opportunities open to all students. Q. Will GCCC accept the credits I already have?
A. Gulf Coast follows the recommendations of the American Council on Education concerning credit awarded for the successful completion of military service schools and training programs. GCCC, as a SOC member also allows degree completion through transferring courses back to GCCC in the event of a PCS move. Students who have completed at least 15 credit hours with GCCC are eligible for a SOC agreement. Gulf Coast also accepts some CLEP credits (see Clep Exams ) and some CCAF degree courses may be used toward equivalent courses. Active duty members may also access the Education Center Website at Tyndall Education Center.
