Do You Have a Passion for Health Information Management?
Medical records and health information managers organize and manage health information data. In this career, you will ensure that information maintains its quality, accuracy, accessibility, and security in both paper files and electronic systems. You will use various classification systems to code and categorize patient information for insurance reimbursement purposes, administer databases and registries, and maintain patients’ medical and treatment histories. Most health information managers work in hospitals or physicians’ offices.
Generally, medical and health service managers have at least a bachelor’s degree before entering the field; however, master’s degrees also are common. Prospective managers typically have some work experience in an administrative or a clinical role in a hospital or other health care facility.
For a career in Health Information Management, you need to earn your bachelor’s degree before being accepted into a master’s degree program.
