Women’s Studies Option, Liberal Arts A.A.

DO YOU HAVE AN INTEREST IN THE SOCIAL AND CULTURAL INFLUENCES THAT HAVE SHAPED THE LIVES AND ROLES OF WOMEN?

If you have an interest in how gender impacts a diverse number of fields including law, public policy, communications, academia, business, management and the health industry, the Women's Studies Option, Liberal Arts A.A. degree is worth exploring.  This program will prepare you for the future in the best tradition of the liberal arts - by emphasizing the critical thinking skills. With your Associate in Arts degree from Gulf Coast, you can transfer to a four-year institution to complete your bachelor's degree.  And did you know you don't have to be a woman to be a women's studies major?  You don't!

Who is hiring Women's Studies graduates?  According to an article published by Learn.org, job options are available in areas such as administration, advocacy, social work, sociology, public health and public policy to graduates with Women's Studies degrees.  In addition, legal services, healthcare groups and government organization are often looking for employees with a deeper understanding and awareness of gender issues.

Whatever career(s) you decide to pursue, you can apply what you’ve learned from Women’s Studies to any situation. It’s not so much a career choice as it is a life choice; you’re adopting a new perspective that you can use in every relationship, every job, and every circumstance.
