GCSC Celebrates "Pi Day" for a Worthy Cause
Gulf Coast State College’s Mathematics Division is celebrating Pi Day tomorrow, March 14, in an effort to raise funds for GCSC’s Commodores Care initiative. The math instructors are sacrificing a few of their own to get “pi”ed. Students, faculty and staff have been casting votes for their favorite professors by purchasing $1 Pi tickets in their “honor.” The three professors with the most votes will be pied in the face. In addition, the Student Government Association (SGA) will be giving away free pies to students.
100% of the donations will benefit Commodores Care, GCSC’s volunteer initiative that provides employees and students opportunities to get involved in volunteering and community efforts. As of March 9, Commodores Care has logged 1,980 volunteer hours which translates to $43,728 going back into the community. They have also donated $15,673.32 worth of goods such as food, clothing and other items to local charities and organizations.
