VPA presents "Menagerie" art exhibit
The Visual & Performing Arts Division of Gulf Coast State College is excited to present “Menagerie,” a group exhibition featuring work by Adam Doyle, Katherine Gallagher, Amy Guidry, Laurie Hogin, Gabriel Lovejoy, Chris Musina and Kevin Taylor.
A menagerie is a collection of exotic animals from around the world that were kept for display and entertainment and were especially popular in European courts of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. In art, animals have long been used as a vehicle to explore our relationship to each other, our environment and ourselves. The artists in the exhibit fully embrace this tradition and use animal imagery to address a wide range of topics from environmental concerns, societal constructs, self-examination and pure celebration of nature. Just like the menageries of the past, this exhibit brings together a collection of fantastic beasts, however with more than just mere curiosities, that will ask the viewer to think, feel and take action.
- The exhibit will be on display in the Amelia Center Main Gallery (Room 112) from February 3 through March 3 with an opening reception on February 3, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
- Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday, from 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., and Friday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Admission is free and open to the public.
