Services Overview
Accessing Our Collections |
The library collection includes approximately 100,000 books and e-books and 275 journals, magazines, and newspapers. From our web site, we provide access to more than 50,000 titles through current e-journal subscriptions and full-text databases. Use the Articles tab. To log in, use your student ID# or (for faculty and staff) your social security number. Your password is your birthday in MMDD format. Find the location of books through the library catalog. |
Computers and Study Spaces |
The first floor of the library offers multiple group study spaces including large tables that seat eight to twelve and round tables that seat four. White marker boards are available for use. The library also offers over 100 computers with productivity software and other course-specific software. |
Instruction and Consultations |
Our SAIL program is designed to provide you with the instruction you need to find authoritative information sources for your research papers and projects. Our librarians are available for one-on-one consultation. Let us assist you with your next research project through a consultation. Schedule an appointment with a subject expert or call us. |
Checking Out Materials |
Most circulating materials check out for 21 days to students and three months to faculty and staff. Reserve and audiovisual items check out for different time periods, depending on the item. You need your GCCC ID or another photo ID to check out materials. |
Fees for Late or Lost Materials |
There is a 25¢ per day per item fee charged for overdue items in regular circulation. When you have a fine of $1.00, your check-out privileges will be blocked. When fees or fines for lost or overdue materials exceed $10 a hold will be placed on your academic record until the fee is paid in full. We accept personal checks, cash, and credit cards (except Discover) in the library -- or by phone with a credit card by calling the circulation desk at (850) 872-3893. Once your fees are paid, your hold restriction will be removed. |
Reserve Items |
The instructor determines the time allowed for their items on course reserve. Reserve items returned late are subject to a $1.00 per day late fee. |
Placing Materials on Hold |
Materials may be placed on hold through the catalog request link or by calling the library circulation desk at (850) 872-3893. You may also use Ask-a-Librarian for assistance. |
Courtesy Notices |
Notices concerning late materials, materials placed on hold, or lost material bills will be sent to your my.gulfcoast.edu student email account. These courtesy notices do not remove the responsibility of students to return items on time. Unpaid fees will result in a hold placed on the student's record until the fees are paid in full. |
Renewing a Checked Out Item |
You may renew materials checked out by calling the library or renewing online through MyAccount. Items with holds cannot be renewed and must be returned promptly. Reserve items or E-Learning items can not be renewed. Log in to MyAccount with your GCCC ID and Password (your month and day of birth in a mmdd format). |
Interlibrary Loan |
The library lends and borrows materials from libraries. You may initiate an interlibrary loan online through the library ILL form, WorldCat, or an Ebsco database. |
Course Videos on DVD |
E-Learning, or distance education classes may have a DVD component. These DVDs check out for the semester and are due back by the last day of classes. Late DVDs are 25¢ per day per item up to a $7.00 per DVD max fine if lost. Items returned late will have a maximum fine of $1.00 per item. Some DVD course videos are available on the library Course Video web site. To check DVDs out, present your GCCC ID with your registration materials at the circulation desk in the library. Students who live outside of Bay county may request these be sent via mail using the e-Learning Resources Request Form. |
Off-Campus Students |
The library will mail items to distance education students and students of GCCC who are attending classes at Tyndall, Gulf/Franklin, or North Bay. Orders for materials may be placed by calling the library at 850-872-3893 or emailing librarian@gulfcoast.edu. You may renew some items online. Items can be returned through the mail or at the Gulf/Franklin Center reception desk. Items should be postmarked with the date the material is due or before to avoid overdue charges.
