Exploring Drawing I
This class is great for the beginner or the more advanced. Focus will be on learning to draw and improving skills. Develop and sharpen drawing skills starting with basic concepts and applying various techniques. Train the brain how to 'see' objects. Focus will be on beginning techniques as well as finishing touches and ways to make drawings stand out. Jennifer Bonaventura is a working professional artist who has been instructing art classes for all ages for more than five years. The award winning designs which she creates have been internationally published and collected. In addition to fine art originals on canvas, Jennifer works on interior and exterior murals, signs, and graphic design projects.

Watercolor I
This two period course is an exploration of the dynamic nature and spirit of watercolor. The course, along with a tutorial, covers a variety of watercolor processes through short lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice. Basic watercolor materials will be required. The material list, provided separately, is designed to keep the cost at a minimum. For participants who do not have watercolor supplies, an optional watercolor kit will be available to purchase for a fee of about $60 on the first day of class. Marie Brusher is an accomplished artist in several media. She has developed an acute sense of color and style, sharing her experiences and knowledge through demonstration, workshops, lectures and innovative methods. In addition, Marie is a board member of the Visual Arts Center of Downtown Panama City.

In this two period class, you will learn to create fun, personalized and unique jewelry using mixed media techniques. Learn a wide range of techniques using beads, charms, fibers, recycled and found materials, resins, metal, wire and much more to create one of a kind design. Mary K. McGraw, owner of Designs by MK, is a local fiber artist and beader. She currently teaches beading at The LH Bead Gallery and has been an Education Encore instructor for a number of years.

Computer – Basics
Get to know the personal computer. Topics include: (1) Starting and shutting down the computer (normal versus locked up), (2) Starting and exiting computer programs, (3) Learning common computer terminology, (4) How to save and open files, (5) How to size windows, move and restore a window, (6) Understanding the windows desktop task bar and start menu, (7) Using the mouse, (8) How to drag and drop files, (9) Learning hardware definitions, (10) Using workspace, title bar, task bar, tool bars, scroll bars, pull down menus, and fly-outs. Don Johnson has years of experience in sharing knowledge with other adults. He uses a variety of teaching techniques and welcomes comments and questions from class members.

One Page "Wonders" with MS Word 2007
Prerequisites: Computer Basics or equivalent experience. Working with Microsoft Word, learn how to create a flyer, print envelopes and create a business card. Basic word processing skills will be covered, as well as formatting text, inserting clip art and photos and using the Draw tool bar. Students need to bring a USB portable storage device. Computer – Preventive Maintenance& Security
Prerequisite: Comfortable with mouse and keyboard. Completion of "Basics & Beyond Basics" is recommended. Familiarization with the computer will bring more personal satisfaction from this very useful class. Topics include: (1) Basic virus protection practices for the computer, (2) Precautions to take while using the Internet, (3) How to avoid scams and hoaxes, (4) How to protect your computer with firewalls, anti-virus, spyware, and spam filtering, (5) How to perform basic maintenance tasks (removing cookies, preventing PC crashes, sluggishness and vulnerabilities). Trish Lewis has over twenty years experience as a Computer Science Instructor with extensive practical experience. She uses a variety of techniques to ensure each student is provided with effective hands-on experiences. She specializes in delivering structured and comprehendible training. Fishing Intermediate/Advanced – NEW
This course will cover new, highly developed techniques and equipment now available for the fisherman and fisherwomen. Species covered includes inshore and offshore saltwater fish targeted in our local area. Ron Barwick is a member of the International Custom Rod Builder's Guild. He has instructed hundreds of students in fishing rod building as well as conducted fishing technique seminars at Tyndall AFB, University of Florida and numerous marinas in the Panama City area. Ron has been the Service Manager at Half Hitch Tackle in Panama City Beach for the last 13 years.

This is a project oriented class that is geared for beginners, but all levels may attend. Each week the instructor will demonstrate a technique. Then, each participant will design and create their own project. The material list will be available at registration. Supply kits will be available on the first day of classes for a nominal fee. Computer – Digital Image Editing
Prerequisites: (1) Access to a computer with a Windows desktop; (2) Ability to open multiple programs; (3) Ability to minimize, maximize and restore Windows; (4) Ability to drag and drop using a mouse; (5) Ability to use scroll bars to position items; (6) Ability to open Windows Explorer to expand/collapse folders. Students must be comfortable with creating, renaming, and deleting files, folders and subfolders. In this two period course, hands-on techniques will be used in learning amazing and creative ways to edit ordinary photographs. Using a computer and Photoshop Elements, students will learn to repair old photographs, use image correction, make photo composites and add special effects to images. History of Ancient Egypt – NEW
This class will cover Egyptian history from the fourth dynasty of the Old Kingdom to the chaos of the first intermediate period. There will be a continuation of the short but important pyramid building period. The evolution of the worship of the sun in the fifth dynasty and the decline of the Old Kingdom under the long rule of the last pharaoh of the sixth dynasty and the resulting decline and fall into the first intermediate period. The Essential Shakespeare – NEW
We will examine one from each of the major categories of plays: comedy, history, and tragedy – devoting two weeks to A Midsummer Night's Dream, two weeks to one of the Henry plays and two weeks to Hamlet. This will be a whirlwind tour and discussion focusing on selected scenes and sections of the film versions. Lynn Wallace serves as an English professor and Director of Developmental Studies at Gulf Coast Community College. He teaches creative writing, literature& film, and composition. Body and Spirit Expressive Dance – NEW
This class will teach you movement focusing on developing strength, grace, rhythm and confidence in moving one's body—and having fun. It encompasses a fusion of many dance styles and will include belly dance, a gypsy skirt dance, a veil dance, a drum solo, a cane dance and a dance to Greek music. Janet Jones (Talibah is her dance name) began dancing when she was 66. In addition to participating in workshops conducted by experts in various styles of belly dance, she has studied with several local instructors. Currently she performs with the Elderbellies, teaches belly dance at the Panama City Beach Senior Center and creative movement at Belvedere Commons.

Discuss Russian History from Nicolas II to Stalin. The class will investigate the fall of the Romanov Dynasty, including the disastrous entry of Russia into World War I and Rasputin's influence on the Romanov Dynasty and his role in hastening the end of their rule. Home Maintenance – NEW
Students will learn about several types of basic home repairs. The curriculum is designed for homeowners and "do-it-yourselfers." Typical discussion will include: carpentry (door repair & adjustment, filling nail & screw holes, surface repairs and lubrication); electrical (safety, basic troubleshooting techniques, replacing receptacles, replacing switches, replacement light bulbs and installing ceiling fans); plumbing (clearing a jammed waste disposal, toilet repairs, clearing drain clogs and repairing leaky sinks); weatherization & energy conservation; ceramic tile (special tools, grout types and uses, replacing broken tiles and sealers). Roland "Landy" Luther has 27 years experience in the kitchen cabinet business (shop manager, installer, sales and kitchen design.) He also has five years experience in the manufacture of decorative wood flooring medallions and borders.

Aquatic Exercise
Learn the basics of aquatic exercise and enjoy the relaxation of GCCC's indoor, heated pool located in the GCCC Wellness Center. Both the locker rooms and the pool are handicapped accessible. All GCCC Staff have certifications from the Aquatic Exercise Association, WaterArt, the Aquatic Therapy and Rehab Institute, and the International Sports Conditioning Association.
