English Grammar and Style

Prerequisite: Satisfactory English score on the Florida College Entry-Level Placement Test or completion of ENC0025 with a minimum grade of ?C.? Introduction to sentence structure, standard practices in grammar and punctuation, and effective stylistic techniques. Designed as a complement to composition courses.

Languages of the World

(Offered fall and spring). This course provides a comprehensive overview of the more than 7,000 languages spoken worldwide. Students will explore the distinctions between languages and dialects, examining the factors that contribute to linguistic similarity and divergence. Students will develop a deeper understanding of the ways in which human language contributes to the study of the human brain. Additionally, the course will introduce key concepts and theoretical frameworks in linguistics, as well as the methodologies employed in linguistic analysis. Topics covered include endangered languages, language contact, language and culture, signed languages, and constructed languages.
