Emergency Medical Technician

The Emergency Medical Services program is accredited by the Florida Department of Health, www.floridahealth.gov/.  Graduates of the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program are eligible to apply for a State of Florida EMT Licensure and the National Association for Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT):

This is the beginning level in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) career ladder.  EMTs are trained in basic life support measures including patient assessment, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillation (AED), oxygen therapy, shock prevention, bandaging, splinting, spinal immobilization, and vehicle extrication.

EMT Class Schedule:

Spring EMT:  * 2026 Application Deadline Has Passed *  Night class 5:00PM- 8:00 PM Mondays & Thursdays 5:00PM- 9:00 PM Tuesdays or Wednesdays The Spring EMT Program has a maximum capacity of 32 students.

Summer EMT:  * Application Deadline April 1, 2026 *  Day class 9:00AM- 2:00PM Mondays & Thursdays 9:00AM- 2:30 PM Tuesdays The Summer EMT Program has a maximum capacity of 18 students.

Fall EMT:  * Application Deadline July 3rd, 2026 *  Night Class 5:00PM- 8:00 PM Mondays & Thursdays 5:00PM- 9:00 PM Tuesdays or Wednesdays   The Fall EMT Program has a maximum capacity of 32 students.

*Additional 104 clinical hour requirement will be scheduled by students outside of regular class meeting times. *Additional mandatory class days may be scheduled on Fridays and Saturdays 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM.

Application & Conditional Acceptance Process

The Summer EMT Program has a maximum capacity of 18 students. Seats are filled on a first-come, first-served basis once a completed application packet is submitted by the deadline and all minimum requirements are met.

Application:

• Submit a completed Gulf Coast State College application.
• Submit a completed EMT Program application.

 Program Packet:

•  Pick up official EMT Application Packet from the EMS Program located at the GCSC North Bay Campus: 637 Hwy 2300, Southport, FL 32409
  •                      *Packet includes all required forms, deadlines, and detailed program information. 

 Program Requirements:

All items listed in the EMT Application Packet must be completed prior to submission, students are not accepted into the EMT Program until the application packet has been completed in full and submitted by the deadline listed in the packet.

This includes:

• Minimum education verification
• Current Florida Driver License
• Physical examination signed by a physician
• Immunization documentation (Hepatitis B, MMR, T-Dap, etc.)
• Current TB screening (within one year)
• Completion of the Mandatory Allied Health Orientation Courses
• Complete a satisfactory criminal background check through the GCSC Criminal Justice Selection Center.
• Complete a satisfactory 10-panel urine drug screen submitted by the EMS Program.
• Hold a current CPR/BLS for Healthcare Providers, maintained throughout enrollment. The required CPR/BLS course is offered through Gulf Coast State College Continuing Education for students who need certification.

Program Orientation:

 Applicants who submit a completed packet by the deadline will receive an invitation to attend the                       mandatory EMT Program Orientation.

Student Selection Process:

The EMT program has selective admission, with limited enrollment.  The requirements listed above are minimum requirements, satisfaction of the minimum requirements or admission into Gulf Coast State College does not imply acceptance into the EMT program.
