STCW - 2010 Basic Safety Training

WE ARE  NOT CURRENTLY OFFERING ANY NEW COURSES

The Standards of Training, Certification and Watch Keeping (STCW) Basic Safety Training Maritime Studies program provides job related training to candidates for full-time or part-time maritime professions that require entry level certification in accordance with established and on-going United States Coast Guard rules and regulations.

The Basic Safety Training course is a 5-day (40 Hours) course that includes theory and practical hands-on training and assessment for the following four modules of STCW A-VI/1-1 to 1-4. The modules are taken over five days and broken into individual modules as listed below.

  1. Personal Survival Techniques - 12 hours
  2. Elementary First Aid - 8 hours
  3. Elementary Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention - 16 hours
  4. Personal Safety & Social Responsibility - 4 hours

The courses are offered as a 40 hours class or as stand alone classes.

Stand along classes are offered as open in/out. This means that the courses can be taken anytime during the semester. You must make contact with the  instructors to see when they are available.
These courses are approved to satisfy the requirements for Basic Safety Training on all size vessels. It is appropriate for all crew members. There are no particular educational requirements. All trainees must be physically fit and must sign a waiver of liability or health
The STCW-2010 course is held at our North Bay Campus. It is located at 700 C.R. 2300, Southport, Florida 32409

To register for the STCW-2010 course, complete the online registration form. In-person registration can be done through Continuing Education, located on the 2nd floor in the McSpadden Student Union East building.
