Security

The security of our information systems and data is paramount to Gulf Coast State College.

Security Incident Reporting

Please report, immediately, any event that may compromise the functionality or security of our GCSC information systems, to ITS Technical Support at ext. 3303. These events may include:

  • If you suspect your computer may have a virus or other malware.
  • If you suspect your computer has been tampered with or hacked.
  • If your computer is behaving strangely.
  • If you suspect there has been unauthorized access to our GCSC systems or data.

You may access, complete, and submit the Security Incident Form.

Security Training

Initial and annual security training for our network users is provided through SANS online training. Successful completion of assigned security modules is required for network access. You will receive an email with your SANS default password and a link to the online training site. You may also access SANS training through the MyGCSC portal. If you have problems accessing SANS training please contact ITS Technical Support at ext. 3303.

Kryptel (Encryption)

Kryptel is our encryption program. Any file containing sensitive or confidential information (especially student or employee information) on any media other than our servers, needs to be encrypted. Password Requirements

Passwords must be at least 8 characters in length and must be unique (cannot reuse passwords). They must contain 3 out of 4 of our complexity requirements: Upper case letters, lower case letter, number, and special character (i.e. % & @ # $ ( etc.). Additionally this password must be changed at least every 60 days.
