    Extended Queued Time for Jobs in the U.S
    12/11/2017 
    Users in the U.S. are seeing wait times up to 5 minutes for job requests in Canvas such as SIS imports, content migrations, and notifications. Components that process these requests are working normally, but the queue is very high. It may take some time for your job requests to start processing, at which point they will run as normal.


    Turnitin Service Alert

    Turnitin and TurnitinUK has now been restored. Service was disrupted from 4.15am PST/12.15pm BST/9.15pm AEDT to 4.39am PST/12.39 BST/9.39pm AEDT. We apologize for any inconvenience


    Intermittent issue with Canvas logins and access to Canvas tools

    Users are seeing intermittent network login errors when accessing Canvas. In addition some Canvas tools appear to be affected by network errors. Canvas engineers have started a remediation plan to restore normal access to Canvas logins and other Canvas tools. However it seems this plan should take a minimum of 30 minutes to execute. We appreciate your continued patience as our Operations team works to implement a solution. We will provide additional details as they become available. We once again offer sincere apology for the inconvenience experienced by your teachers and students.

    The following is an update from the Canvas Learning Management System. Hello - Canvas performance and service recovery continues to progress quickly. Although many users should now be able to access Canvas, there may still be areas of impaired functionality as we work through remaining issues mentioned there would still be areas of impaired functionality between Canvas and Amazon. The biggest area of impact right now is that uploads are not yet working. This includes student uploads to assignments, instructor grade uploads, and similar functions, but also the ability for Canvas' background processes to upload files such as admin reports (which is required as part of the process to generate a report at the account level). You may continue to see issues with this, and other areas in Canvas, as Amazon works to fully restore all services.     The following is the latest update from the Canvas Learning Management System. Canvas Status Update Many users unable to access Canvas due to AWS Outage Hello - Amazon has verified that uploads to their service should be working again; users should be seeing improved performance with their uploads to Canvas. Our DevOps team is continuing to monitor the situation, but we are not currently aware of any lingering issues that affect Canvas functionality at this time. Thank you, Canvas Support

    Canvas Notification Issue

    Canvas is currently experiencing issues with the notification server. If you reply to emails from your students that originated in Canvas using your Outlook, those students may not be receiving your replies. Canvas is working on a solution and should have the issue fixed soon. For the time being you should reply to emails sent through Canvas in Canvas. This will ensure that your replies are received.

    A phishing message claiming to be from Gulf Coast Support has been sent to several college employees informing users of congested emails.

    This message is fake. Please ensure that you do not reply, access any sites it tells you to go to or give any information or open any attachments provided. Use caution with any received emails. Do not reply to unsolicited email messages and verify the legitimacy of an email by contacting the organization or person directly through a trusted contact number.

    All GCSC employees need to use caution when encountering these types of email messages.

    If you have provided any information to an external site please contact the Technical Support desk immediately so the necessary steps can be taken to secure your account.

    Internet Access Outage This Morning, June 23, From 3:30 to 9:30 am

    Access to GCSC website was interrupted between 3:30 and 9:30 am this morning. This affected access to MyGCSC, Canvas, SSB, and email. All access has been restored.

    Technical Support has been notified of a new scam targeting our GCSC users.

    The email message is stating that your Outlook Web Network User Account password will expire today. It is asking users to click a link to change your password for Outlook Web.  This is fake and it needs to be deleted immediately.

    All GCSC employees need to stay vigilant and use caution regarding any received emails containing email attachments or hyperlinks, even those appearing to originate from trusted sources. 

    If you have provided any information to an external site or attempted to download information please contact the Technical Support desk immediately so the necessary steps can be taken to secure your account.

    Technical Support has been notified of a new scam targeting our GCSC users.

    The message is from no-reply@0nedrive.com (note that the spelling of OneDrive is incorrect). This is fake and it needs to be deleted immediately.

    Access to Email Restored
    02/20/2015
    As of 11:15 AM, GCSC email has been restored. Updates are being applied to the email server currently. No emails have been lost; no previous emails are missing, and incoming emails have been delayed, but will still be delivered to your inbox in time. We anticipate that there may be brief (5 minutes or less) outages during the next few hours as these updates are applied. Access to webmail may also be intermittent during these updates. If possible, when you leave your workstation tonight, please close Outlook. This will ensure that restoration of the system proceeds quickly. Please note that when accessing your email, you may receive a notification about certificate errors. This is normal, and you can safely click “Accept” as many times as necessary, and this will allow you to log in to your email. The issue with the certificates is temporary and will be corrected during the update process. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this outage, and appreciate your understanding and patience.

These messages are fake; please ensure you don’t provide any information on the site, and if you have, please contact us so that we can take steps to secure your account.

    Connection Issues with Banner, Printing, and email

    Earlier we were having intermittent connections issues that affected Banner INB, email, Argos, and printing to campus computers. All systems are currently available. You may need to log back into Banner INB. We are working on resolving the issues.

    Network Outage
    11/27/2018
    A network outage was reported at 12:54 pm. Currently, there is no firm ETA on when service will return. Access to Internet, CANVAS, and e-mail are affected.


    Network Access to the Internet is Slow

    We are experiencing slow connection speeds at this time. The cause is still under investigation. I will send an update as soon as more information is available.


    Urgent Network Maintainance
    9/7/2018
    The network is experiencing slow response time to the internet. The cause is a piece of network equipment that will need to be changed out. Today, September 7, between 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. access to the internet from on campus will be disrupted. From off campus the equipment change will affect access to the Gulf Coast website, MyGCSC, Canvas, Student email, eTranscript, Lighthouse.


     Network Maintenance
    7/31/2018
    On August 5, between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. the network and internet access to the GCSC web page and MyGCSC will be interrupted. During this time network connectivity will be intermittent. This service interruption is required to update network connections. Access to Canvas, student email, and SSB will be affected.  


    Network Outage
    7/23/2018

    5:00 pm - The network is back online through an alternate, temporary, path. All systems should be back online. The cut fiber must still be repaired. Once the fiber is repaired we will schedule a downtime to cut back over to our normal fiber path.

    4:27 pm - The network suffered a fiber cut. A contractor has been contacted and will splice the fiber tonight. There is no firm ETA at this time. Access to Internet, canvas, email, banner and R: drive are affected.

    2:31 pm - The network is down. We are working the issue at this time. I will provide an update as we have more information.

    Internet Outage - Midnight to 4:00 am
    6/14/2018

    We suffered a unplanned temporary outage of our internet connection last night starting around midnight. The outage was due to emergency maintenance on the fiber for our internet. Unity Fiber had the repairs completed at approximately 4:00 am this morning. Access to our Web page, MyGCSC, Canvas, and SSB was down during this time. Students submitting assignments by midnight Wednesday may have been affected by this outage.


     GCSC Website Maintenance
    5/25/2018
    The GCSC Website will be off line for approximately 30 minutes on Monday May 28, between 7:00 and 9:00 am. While the website is offline there will be no access to the MyGCSC portal. This will affect student and staff access to Canvas, SSB, and email.


    Internet Services Outages
    5/21/2018
    Note that access to the Webpage and MyGCSC resources (CANVAS, Lighthouse, Technical Support, Email, etc.) will be interrupted during the times shown below.

    • May 24, New equipment installation with cutover after 10:00 pm. Estimated downtime is one hour.
    • July 13, Move of internet service. This is a tentative date depending on the availability of the vendor. Estimated time for the move is six hours starting after 5:00 pm.

    Network Outage to North Bay Campus

    The fiber to NBC/EOC is being moved at this time. Currently there is no estimated time for completion but the contractor is working to restore our link first. Four digit dialing to NBC/EOC is not working at this time due to the fiber move. To contact NBC/EOC you can dial (850) 872-3878.

    Phone System Voicemail Outage

    Issues arose with accessing the voicemail system and some phone extensions on campus. The issue was reported at 8:30 am and was resolved by 8:55am.

    The phone system will be tested Friday around 4:00 PM. Some phones on campus may experience a temporary loss of connection during the process. The service interruption will be brief if all goes as planned.

    A message disguised as a DocuSign approval document which appears sent from a GCSC address containing a link to a download. This is fake and it needs to be deleted immediately. All GCSC members need to stay vigilant and use caution regarding any received emails containing email attachments or hyperlinks, even those appearing to originate from trusted sources.

    The message is disguised as an alert regarding a portal login which is emailed from a non-GCSC address containing a link to an unauthorized site.     Technical Support has been notified of a vicious new scam targeting our GCSC users. The message is disguised as a person interested in an internship or job on campus which is emailed from a non-GCSC address containing a fake attached document. All GCSC employees need to stay vigilant and use caution regarding any received emails containing email attachments or hyperlinks, even those appearing to originate from trusted sources.

    If you notice any such emails please do not forward the email but contact the Technical Support desk immediately so the necessary steps can be taken to secure accounts.

    A scam message claiming to be from the college president has been sent to several college employees with the subject "HELLO" and message text stating that he "needs your assistance". Tthis message is fake. Please ensure that you do not reply, access any sites it tells you to go to or give any information. Use caution with any received emails. Do not reply to unsolicited email messages and verify the legitimacy of an email by contacting the organization or person directly through a trusted contact number.

    All GCSC employees need to use caution when encountering these types of email messages.

    Warning: Potential Hurricane Harvey Phishing Scams

    A phishing scam targeting GCSC users has been reported by several people. The message, emailed from a non-GCSC address, encourages users to send donations or provide personal information. Stay vigilant for malicious cyber activity centered around Hurricane Harvey including exercising caution with any storm-related emails, attachments, or hyperlinks, even those appearing to originate from trusted sources. Use caution with any received emails containing email attachments. Do not follow unsolicited web links in email messages and verify the legitimacy of any email solicitation by contacting the organization directly through a trusted contact number.

    A phishing scam targeting GCSC users has been reported by several people. The message, emailed from a non-GCSC address, encourages users to view a message by means of a link regarding scheduling. This link leads to a deceptive site designed to trick you into doing something dangerous, like installing software, or revealing your personal information, like passwords, phone numbers or credit cards. If you have provided any password information to an external user please contact the Technical Support desk immediately so that we may take steps to secure your account.

    A phishing attempt is circulating encouraging users to manual update Webmail. This is from a non-GCSC email, please delete this email immediately! It does NOT come from a GCSC source. It is a fraudulent attempt to gain access to your personal information. Information Technology Services never solicits any such information by email. If you have already clicked on the link in this email and submitted your personal information, you need to change your GCSC Password as soon as possible.


    SECURITY WARNING: Financial Info Solicitation

    Please be advised that around the State of Florida, active attempts are underway by individuals to solicit financial information from specific individuals within colleges. In one instance, a payroll manager at another school in the State of Florida was sent a message that represented themselves as the Director of Human Resources and asked for the complete list of employee W2's to be emailed to their personal address. The payroll manager contacted the HR Director to verify it and determined that it was NOT legitimate. Be extremely vigilant of any requests to send responses to personal addresses. For security purposes, secure campus data should never be sent to non-campus email addresses. In directed security attempts such as this one, attackers will attempt to fully research position names and titles before contacting anyone and may even have checked their social media accounts or public records to help with the attempt.

    Good Morning, Malicious attacks on our systems are increasing. To prevent significant risks to privacy, financial, and other college resources, pay attention to the following:

    • Never click a link, whether in an e-mail or a website, until you hover your mouse over the links without clicking to verify their actual source.
    • Do not download and install software from off-campus sources.

    Be wary of email messages from off campus accounts claiming that your email will expire in 24 hours and asking you to click on a link to validate your email. These are attempts to gain access to your account and providing your username and password will cause your account to become compromised.     Unsolicited Purchase Order Scam

    Several staff members have reported receiving unsolicited and unfamiliar purchase orders for unspecified items. The purchase orders do not specify where they came from, what they are for, and have random order confirmation numbers. They have PDF files attached. These are scams. Please ensure that you do not open the attachments or respond to the sender, as they may put your computer at risk of malware infection.


    ANTHEM - Blue Cross Blue Shield Data Breach

    We have been informed by the Consortium that a cyber-attack on Anthem may have resulted in having information on Florida Blue members compromised. Anthem is currently investigating and the impacted individuals will be contacted by U.S. Postal Service. In the meantime, be aware of e-mails requesting you to click links, provide credit cards, or social security numbers. Be aware of phone calls as well. How will I know if my health insurance identification number has been compromised? Is there anything that I can do to monitor this? If you have signed up for Florida Blue’s member portal, you can check claim activity by logging into your account at www.FloridaBlue.com. If you have not already registered for Florida Blue’s member portal, you can create an account by accessing www.FloridaBlue.com from your mobile device or computer. If you use your mobile device, select the green button that says “member login.” If you use your computer, select the blue button that says “login/register.” You will need your member number in order to register and it is located on your health care card. Employees should contact HR for insurance questions/concern and IT for validity of e-mails. ANTHEM has a website set up at www.anthemfacts.com for further information.

This very famous and very old scam operates by requiring “winners” to send processing fees to collect their non-existent winnings. There is always a new fee, and you will never collect winnings. Please ensure that you do not provide any information to the sender.

This email comes from an off-campus .edu account that has been hacked.     Be warned that a message is being sent to several staff members claiming to be someone from “hccfl.edu” (you may receive it from other sources). The message announces that systems will be offline today and that you must re-activate your account on an off-campus site. No such downtime is scheduled today, nor are we requesting that you register for a service on any off-campus site. Please be wary of scams like this.


    Fake Invoice Alert

    Some staff members have received fake remittance confirmations and invoices from an unidentified company for “September and October Invoices”. This message is actually a virus, and the attachment can seriously harm your computer, downloading malware and stealing your login and financial information (or the financial information on the computer you’re using). The company names and sender names are generated at random.
