Patient Rights and Responsibilities

Patient Rights

As a Dental Clinic patient, you can expect considerate, respectful and confidential treatment within the clinic. When appropriate, there will be planned appointments with completion of scheduled treatment. You will have access to complete, current information about your dental condition, cost and explanation of recommended treatment and expected outcomes of treatment.

Due to the educational scope of the program, patients are informed that the provision of dental services are limited. Patients should seek comprehensive care from a private practice dentist of their choice. The clinic will be glad to provide consultations, referrals, and duplicates of radiographs. The patients are further informed that when the dental faculty determine it is in the best interest of the patient or the student, the patient will be referred to the private sector for further clinical treatment. The clinic exists to teach students the skills of dental assisting and dental hygiene. The primary provider of services will normally be dental student or a student assisting a dental faculty member. Dental appointments made in the clinic can be lengthy (3 hours), requiring many procedural steps to be performed by the student. Each process will be evaluated and approved of under the direct supervision of qualified dental faculty. The patient is further advised that numerous appointments may be required in either clinic session.

Patient Responsibilities
