Practical Nurse, V.C.

Program overview:

This program is designed to help you qualify to obtain a Licensed Practical Nurse's license in the State of Florida. Upon completion of the program, which consists of 1,350 hours of study, you will be eligible to take the NCLEX-PN (National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses). The first two courses of this program qualify students to take the Certified Nursing Assistant examination. This program is available only at the Gulf/Franklin Campus in Port St. Joe, Florida.

In this program, the practical nurse student learns to give patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician. The student will acquire skills and knowledge necessary to give safe and effective care to patients in a variety of settings.

The Practical Nursing program is a selective admission, limited enrollment program. Admission to Gulf Coast State College does not imply acceptance into the Practical Nursing Program.

Application Process:

After meeting the above criteria, the applicant should contact the Assistant Coordinator for advising and review of the application folder for completion.

Applications must be completed by the last working day in June. Due to the selection process, meeting minimum requirements does not automatically guarantee admission. It is the responsibility of the student to maintain communication with the program advisor to ensure that the application folder is complete and up-to-date with current admission requirements.

NOTE TO ALL STUDENTS: Admission to the program is competitive in nature and is not guaranteed. During the first week in July, a selection committee will rank all completed applications and admission is granted to the most qualified applicants. Applicants can improve their chances of admission by completing one or more of the recommended supplemental courses listed in the application packet. It should be understood that satisfactorily meeting minimum requirements does not automatically guarantee admission. Applicants will be notified by mail of selection status.
