Financial Aid for Transient Students

A transient student is a student who is enrolled at one college/university while taking classes simultaneously at another college/university. The college/university a degree-seeking student is enrolled at is the 'Home' institution and the college/university a student is temporarily attending is the 'Host' institution. Please visit the Florida College System Foundation website or the State University System of Florida - Tuition & Fees website to estimate the additional costs you may incur as a result of enrolling as a transient student at a public Florida college/university.

GCSC degree-seeking students who elect to temporarily attend another college or university as a transient student may be eligible to receive additional financial aid from GCSC.

Florida public institutions

If you wish to have your transient credit hours considered in your GCSC financial aid and you are attending a public in-state institution as a transient student then you must complete a 'Transient Student Admission Application' online at the Florida Shines website.  Please be sure to check the financial aid indicator when submitting your application.

Non-Florida or Private institutions

If you wish to have your transient credit hours considered in your GCSC financial aid and you are attending an out-of-state or private institution then you will need to complete a paper 'Transient Financial Aid Application' and submit it to the financial aid office.

Regardless of where you attend please be advised that:

  • Your academic advisor must confirm that your transient courses are applicable towards your GCSC degree.
  • You are responsible for paying tuition & fees at your ‘Host’ institution prior to disbursement of financial aid at GCSC.
  • You are responsible for paying for the books you need at your ‘Host’ institution prior to disbursement of financial aid at GCSC.
  • Book authorization options may be available if you have a financial hardship and can't pay your 'Host' institution books prior to disbursement of financial aid at GCSC.
  • You may be required to repay a portion of your GCSC financial aid if you drop or withdraw from classes at your ‘Host’ institution.
  • You must complete a FAFSA and meet all financial aid eligibility requirements in order to have your ‘Host’ institution credit hours included in your GCSC financial aid enrollment.
  • You are responsible for requesting and submitting a copy of your ‘Host’ institution official transcript to GCSC.  Please note that you may need to request a financial aid deferment for any upcoming GCSC classes while you're in the process of submitting your transient transcript.
  • Your GCSC Satisfactory Academic Progress status may be negatively affected by the official transcript from your ‘Host’ institution or the lack thereof.
  • Receiving federal Pell grant at two institutions simultaneously is prohibited.
  • The additional financial aid that you may receive based upon your transient credit hours will not be disbursed until GCSC receives cost-of-attendance and enrollment verification from your 'host' institution.
  • You are responsible for requesting a paper deferment from GCSC's financial aid office for your federal student loans if you are less-than-half-time at GCSC and less-than-half-time at your host institution.

Non-GCSC students who elect to attend GCSC as a transient student may be eligible to receive additional financial aid from their 'Home' institution.
